Children's programming is bizarre when filtered through the lens of adulthood. There's something about a pleasant, robust male voice saying, "I thought you had the chinchillas - the mayor's not going to be too happy about this" that makes my brain hurt.
And don't get me started on Boobah. Brrr.

Hi Melania,
We have been enjoying your blog posts. Sounds like Alec and Joffre are a lot of fun. Keep the updates coming!
Jan, Shawn and Nathan
Actually, a lot of the creepiness exists independently of adult perspective. My otherwise idyllic childhood was haunted--haunted, I tell you!--by a pair of recurring minor characters on Sesame Street. They were supposed to be aliens. They looked like the business end of floor mops. One was red, the other blue, and they would explore a person's house or other mundane location, while emitting a "mee mee mee mee mee mee, uh hawnh, uh hawnh," noise. [shudders] Gave me the heebie-jeebies every time.
Aaaahhhgg!! What is it? Please make it stop!
I believe I felt a sort of dreadful glee in response to the mopheads.
Shadow on Bear in the Big Blue House totally creeps me out, though. Really - the shadow of a little girl, with no child attached to it, that you know is somewhere nearby because all of a sudden you hear laughter, and then bagpipes, and then the shadow girl appears and - with bad Scottish accent - tells rhymes and sings songs, and then leaves, saying "remember, if you need a story - just try and catch me! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!"
Brrrr.
